About Color Code Box
Color Code Box gives you everything about a color in one place: its hex, RGB, HSL and CMYK codes, matching colors, shades and tints, contrast with text, and how it looks with color blindness. Every one of the 16,777,216 hex colors has its own page.
How we calculate
- Conversions use the standard sRGB formulas. CIE LAB, LCH and XYZ use the D65 white point.
- "Closest named color" uses the CIEDE2000 color difference (ΔE). Under 2 is hard to see; under 5 is a close match.
- Contrast ratios follow WCAG 2. Color blindness previews use the Machado, Oliveira and Fernandes (2009) model.
- CMYK values are a simple conversion without a printer profile, so treat them as a starting point for print.
Where the color names come from
We list 5,151 named colors: the CSS named colors, a hand-picked list of the most common color names with their usual values, and a curated selection from the open color-names list by David Aerne and contributors (MIT license). Different sources sometimes give the same name different values; where that matters, the page says so.
